Setting Proxy Servers

In order to have faster efficiency on browsing the web, it is necessary for you to set the proxy servers in your web browser. This helps to make more efficient use of bandwidth and reduce the chances of getting duplicated copies of the same data from overseas. This proxy server is restricted to CUHK Alumni users only. To take advantage of its current setup, you have to configure your browser by setting,

Hostname : proxy.alumni.cuhk.edu.hk
Port Number : 8080
Protocols Supported : FTP, GOPHER, HTTP and Security
No Proxy on : none

Choose the browser you are using to set the proxy server. (IE 3.0 and 4.0 are the default browser bundled with Windows 95 and Windows 98 respectively.)

1. Netscape Navigator

• Netscape Communicator 4.X
• Netscape Navigator 3.X or 2.X

2. Internet Explorer

• Internet Explorer 4.0
• Internet Explorer 3.0
